19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
