'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly converted the deflection before sprinting toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an extraordinary comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a fourth-round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right flank after they changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who praised the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can think you're all right and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in south Wales. At Orient he reunited with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including both legs games against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
