Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
An important representative said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
